Dairy at Ten Boer in the Netherlands with robotic milking, feeding and methane digester. Auto feeding hoppers deliver custom rations to separate mobs of cattle.
Feeding system loaded to keep ration up to cattle.
Methane digestor which processes all the manure on site requires the addition of externally sourced carbohydrates eg. hay cut from nearby roadsides.
Ah yes - have seen a couple of farms like this. Enjoying the trip down memory lane. Loved the story too about how you, and now the boys, enjoy the book about Hendrika the Cow. To me - that is the essence of travel - when the big wide world comes alive. Looooving all the bike photos too - if it wasn't for the Swanston St hill I would be investing in one of those girly step through bikes! :) love to all, A. xx
Come on Anne. Swanston St hill??????? You should be able to ride over that little bump in high heels, tight skirt and a double bass on your back whilst drinking a glass of Moet.
now that doesnt make me think that we could ever over capitalise on automation. that sort of dairy farming is so far from what we are used to seeing in aust its not funny daniel
Together with my wife I manage a dairy and dairy-beef enterprise at Fish Creek in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. We run a crossbred herd with a strong focus on pasture utilisation.
Nuffield Australia have awarded me a 2010 Nuffield Scholarship, this blog is a photo journal of my Nuffield adventures.
Established in 1947, in the UK, the Nuffield program resulted from a bequest from William Morris (later to become Lord Nuffield) of the Morris car company.
Nuffield Scholarships were awarded to 18 Australian Primary Producers in 2010. The scholarship program provides leading primary producers with the opportunity to travel overseas to increase their general knowledge of global agricultural issues and to gain skills to benefit their industry and business.
